Long-lasting Customer Products with Novaled PIN OLEDs

An essential criterion for customer applications is the life-time of integrated OLEDs. As the life cycle of an OLED product is already some 10,000 h, the single diode must have an even longer operating stability at elevated brightness. Using Novaled PIN OLED technology customers are able to enduring life cycles for both top and bottom emission OLEDs. The absolute value primarily depends on the emitter materials and is in no means limited by the doping approach. Using the PIN OLED technology, Novaled has been able to match and even exceed the life-time of various state-of-the-art emitter systems.
The following life-time values have been achieved at room temperature (RT ) and 1,000 cd/m² :
Red: > 1,000,000 h
Green: 200,000 h
Blue: 22,000 h


High lifetime at 80°C:
Thanks to the stability of the Novaled doped layers high OLED life-times at elevated temperatures can be achieved. The ambient temperature plays a crucial role in OLED life-time. Thus, it is of particular importance to be able to obtain long life-times at elevated temperatures, e.g. applications in the automotive industry.
Novaled has been able to demonstrate very high life-times at 80°C using its own molecular dopants. This has resulted in a red PIN OLED (bottom emission type) having a life-time of over 17,000 h at 500 cd/m² and 80°C.
